Tagliaferri's Delicatessen sits right on Grant Avenue in Novato, serving as a longtime neighborhood staple for anyone looking to satisfy a craving for authentic Italian deli fare. It’s the kind of place where people swing by during lunch breaks or pick up something quick but substantial for dinner. The vibe inside feels practical and straightforward, with a clean, airy setting that reflects the care they put into their ingredients.

The menu focuses heavily on classic Italian-style sandwiches. The meatball sandwich stands out, alongside other hearty options like Italian sausage, chicken parmigiana, and hot pastrami. Freshness is noticeable from the first bite; these are not your typical deli sandwiches but ones handcrafted with quality meats and cheeses. Those who spend time browsing the market section find a variety of imported items—pasta, oils, and specialty goods—that add a touch of “Little Italy” to Novato's quieter Main Street scene.

Tagliaferri’s draws a mix of locals: longtime regulars who appreciate the consistent quality and the family-owned atmosphere, as well as newcomers discovering its wide variety of cured meats and cheeses. Many come expecting solid lunchtime sandwiches but also leave curious to explore the deli’s pantry staples and imported groceries. The space has a no-fuss, old-school deli feel, enhanced by quick and friendly service that fits well with busy weekday afternoons or weekend errands.

If you’re after a deli experience that balances convenience with authenticity—and where the salami, soppressata, and provolone really matter—Tagliaferri’s is a steady presence in downtown Novato. Whether you're grabbing a meatball sub to go or picking up specialty pasta and oils, it’s a spot grounded firmly in the local community’s Italian culinary tradition.

Literally my favorite sandwich place. It's very conveniently located, and their service is excellent. The pastrami sandwiches are very good as well as their prosciutto sandwiches. Very fresh ingredients and fast service in a friendly atmosphere

What a great spot, so glad that I decided to stop by with a group of friends. They have a large option of meats and vegetables to choose from which all look delicious. You can tell they only sell high quality products here. Can’t wait to come back and try out other options.

Pretty sure I just ate the best turkey sandwich I ever have in my life! I was sharing with my young son so the soft roll we chose was perfect and so delicious. I wasn’t expecting a market inside and love the assortment of harder to find items. Can’t wait to come again and load up the fridge and pantry with all this authentic goodness. Everything is so fresh, airy feeling and super clean. Oh, and the service was stellar! So friendly and upbeat. They definitely deserve my 5 star review. Thank you!

Been coming to Tags since I was a kid. The quality is still exceptional. On top of that I can always find all of my Italian needs here.

Next to lucky market off seventh and Grant Avenue downtown Novato. Family owned deli that has served Bay Area for years with catering , too. It’s little Italy in Novato. Anything in refrigeration pasta is amazing. Imported Italian treats and oils. Fresh coffee is amazing. Great old school feel. My salami sandwich is a tradition .

Marcus was very nice. The place was very clean. The sandwich was large. I liked the vinegar and peppers. French Bread was puffy. Macaroni salad was good. Cookies and beverages available. $32 for 2 sandwiches and 2 small sides.

Tagliaferri “Tags” is an old school Italian deli. They sell imported Italian food and wines and have a deli counter where you can get fresh made sandwiches. I have been a customer for over 20 years and I’m not even a local. I always make it a point to stop by to grab a sandwich when I’m in the area. It opened in 1997 by locals, father and son. is still going strong simply because they got darn tasty deli meats, delicious bakery sandwich bread choices, hot comfort Italian food done right, yummy bakery desserts, and imported food and wine. The sandwiches are fantastic. My faves are the meatball, custom #1 (which reminds me of a typical Italian sandwich), and custom #12 grilled eggplant and artichoke. The meatballs texture are light and bouncy but with a substantial heftiness. The #1 is my #1, classic tried and true sandwich. The eggplant and artichoke is just a flavor bomb. Heck, I have had no sandwich I did not like from here. It’s all good! The prices are comparable to other delis. The size of the sandwich is hefty. Beautiful. I usually grab n go, but sometimes I eat there since they have some indoor tables. But when I go within a hour to closing time, the indoor seating area is usually shut down. So if you want to order anything from the deli counter, the ordering protocol is grab a number from the red number dispensing machine on the counter and stand in line. If it is not busy, they will not call out numbers and will take customers in line order. So grab a number to be cover your bases. If you want to buy items not from behind the counter, purchase those by standing at the front register. Want to avoid the rush, they take online orders and call ins. But buckle in during peak lunch hours. Customer service is great! To add, they do not use gloves but can you request them to when making your food. No attitudes. They’re cool with that.
